Hi,

I have a question about some of my log entries. A lot of hits on my site come through google, and most of the time the landing page is logged correctly. But the problem is that sometimes my main page is logged in stead of the actual page google points to. What could be the reason for this?

For instance, my site was found using the key words POITIERS FRANKRIJK TOERIST on google.be. But in stead of finding an entry in my logs to the page google found (http://www.duppen.nl/fotografie/reisverhalen/frankrijk/030904.html), I see an entry to the main page (http://www.duppen.nl). This error(?) results in unreliable popular page stats.

I think Google provides a link to the base URL of the site as well as the most relevant page that it found.
It could be that the person who searched and got to your site clicked on the base URL link instead of the most relevant page.

I checked google, but there are no links to the base URL. Also, I use a second counter for checking this kind of stuff, and that counter logged the correct url. This problem occurs too frequently to let it slip by.

Any other suggestions?

Unusual.
Could you provide me with a guest login to the logger account that is logging that website.

You can PM me the details if you want to keep the URL private.

I'm going to have a guess that this is a problem relating to the individual user arriving at your site.
I can't recreate the problem and have therefore run out of options apart from the one i mention above!

How is this going to be a user-related problem, when another counter does register the hits correctly.

Could this be a cookie related problem? Pphlogger doesn't send out a privacy policy with its cookie, while the other counter I use does send one. Possibly the problem?

Another thing I noticed when you tried to reproduce the problem, is that of the two google searches you tried only the first is logged (my other counter logs both, so that's how I know you tries twice). Why?

(hope you see my posts as a challenge, not a problem) Wink

As far as i can remember, i only did the search once...
You may want to add a P3P policy header to the logger code for when it sets cookies. There is a post somewhere that i wrote about it once.

Oh your post is a challenge, but i'm not the author of the software Wink I'm just a moderator. I try to help where i can Smile
