Hi all;

I have come across PPhlogger and it looks great! However I am looking for a count/stats script that builds link popularity to the site offering the service for good SEO.

Do's Phplogger do this?
Or is it possible for a mod to be wrote, for when users paste the code onto thier sites for a small image to appear with a link to the main site?

Quick response my friends, Im ready to give it a whirl!

Thanks all

I modified the JS code inside the PHP files to encase the image with a link.
Stops users removing the link and isn't obtrusive.

i've had one or two bad apples who complained about the link i add in, but everyone else has been happy to keep it there seeing as i provide the service for free and spend quite a while supporting them.

I wanted to use a text link though so i could have keywords in the link, ie

"free invisible counter" Smile

Hi,

I understand that I need to modify the JS code to encase the image with a link, but I'm wondering...will SE spiders read URLs inside of JS? I read somewhere that they won't. Which would make it no good for SEO purposes, right?

Thanks.

Correct.
Search engines generally ignore any JS code altogether, so the counter is essentially pointless Smile

That means that the link you put in your code is really of no benefit to you, right? That's too bad.

Isn't there some way to insert a non-JS link outside of the JS code so that SEs can see it? Then have an automatic check of some kind to make sure people don't remove it, maybe when they log in to get their stats.

I love this program and think to get these kind of stats for free, people will put up with a small link at the bottom that says "Web Stats courtesy of blah-blah", with a link back to my site. If not, then they can install it themselves.

Can you recommend someone I can hire to do this for me? It shouldn't be that much of a mod for someone who knows what they're doing. Unfortunately I'm not in that category...

i have a link in the noscript section that gets picked up fine, my site has over 100k backlinks to it now.
As for checking that they don't remove it, either do that manually or send out a bot to check the links are there Smile

That's great! Can you post the code you use to insert the link? Did you put this code in the visibility file? I'm not really a programmer, so I'm not sure of the exact syntax. But I can figure out how to replace your link with my link. Smile

Re. the bot, again I know what they are, but how would I tell one to go look for the link? Thanks.

hi Kalona,

i don't use a bot myself, i'm gullible and just set it out straight in the welcome email that my site is completely free and that for them to get the best service possible i need th link left in to boost visitor number and therefore onsite advertising revenue (paid ads + google adsense). I do however manually check up on the largest / most hits sites, they have all, minus one who complied when asked, left the links in place. You'll find most people are greatfull of a free and well run service.

as for the link:

Code:

I'm looking in the visibility file and don't see the noscript tag. Am I in the right place or is there another file I should be modifying? Thanks.

Hi Sharon,

you mean for people to copy it, ok. you need to hand edit the welcome email and add in there (add in also the message about leaving it in place).

To change the code that appears in the "settings" area and the code provided straight after signup you need to edit the "html_code.txt" file in the include folder Smile
