Sim9, did you replace

Quote:

// $hostname = ($ip) ? ($ip) : '';
// $proxy_hostname = ($proxy_ip) ? ($proxy_ip) : '';
function gethost ($ip) { // linux only!
$host = `host $ip`;
return (($host ? end ( explode (' ', $host)) : $ip));
}
$hostname = ($ip) ? ($ip) : '';
$proxy_hostname = ($proxy_ip) ? ($proxy_ip) : '';

with

Quote:

// For Linux...

function gethost ($ip) {
$host = `host $ip`;
return (($host ? end ( explode (' ', $host)) : $ip));
}

this "solution" does cause some problems and i suggest anyone only use it if your server is really under strain like mine was.
Not only does it cause alot of 3nxdomain issues it also stops top referrers and mp page titles to display properly.

If your counter installation is running slowly the only solution is to upgrade your hosting package.

After alot of patience from my users i've limited my counter installations to 1000 users, unfortunately i can't say how many hits in total that 1000 is worth but there are quite a few 10k+ hits a day sites.
